Bandwagon Assessment: 2nd Quarter

Nearly every team has played 50% of their schedule and we’ve reached the All Star Break. Time to take a 2nd look at each team’s bandwagon prospects. (Records thru 2/23/12)

Miami Heat 27-7

  • Swag
  • Team Strength: Defense
  • Team Weakness: Frontcourt depth
  • Bandwagon Assessment: Jump On
  • 1st Quarter Outlook: Most Heat fans are bandwagon fans- which we endorse obviously. They need more fans like Lil Wayne if they are to rise to true greatness.
  • 2nd Quarter Outlook: They are the hottest team in the league and they’re in constant attack mode. LeBron is clearly the league MVP at this point.

Chicago Bulls 27-8

  • Swag
  • Team Strength: Defense
  • Team Weakness: 2 Guard production
  • Bandwagon Assessment: Jump On
  • 1st Quarter Outlook: Reigning league MVP Derrick Rose makes at least one play a game that blows your mind. Their offense still needs another guy who can create his own shot.
  • 2nd Quarter Outlook: When Rose is healthy they are scary. They need a healthy Rip Hamilton to beat Miami.

Indiana Pacers 21-12

  • Swag
  • Team Strength: Depth
  • Team Weakness: Youth
  • Bandwagon Assessment: Jump On
  • 1st Quarter Outlook: Indiana has a team. They get under opponents’ skin and have just enough offense to beat you. And they aren’t afraid of Chicago.
  • 2nd Quarter Outlook: Good but not totally consistent. They go out and beat Chicago on the road but then get housed by Miami at home.

Philadelphia 76ers 20-14

  • Swag
  • Team Strength: Defense
  • Team Weakness: Consistency
  • Bandwagon Assessment: Jump On
  • 1st Quarter Outlook: This is a solid League Pass team. They’ve got young ballers being coached by a veteran coach. They’re winning but their injury-prone bigs will have a say in how far they go.
  • 2nd Quarter Outlook: Fun to watch but not sure this team will beat anyone in a playoff series.

Orlando Magic 22-13

  • Swag
  • Team Strength: Interior defense
  • Team Weakness: Roster uncertainty
  • Bandwagon Assessment: Jump Off
  • 1st Quarter Outlook: It’s only a matter of time before Dwight Howard is traded. This team has turned in two heartless performances recently. Not a good situation.
  • 2nd Quarter Outlook: The Magic have played better lately but the trade rumors loom over any long-term projections.

Atlanta Hawks 20-14

  • Swag
  • Team Strength: Athleticism
  • Team Weakness: Durability
  • Bandwagon Assessment: Jump Off
  • 1st Quarter Outlook: For a team called the Highlight Factory doesn’t it seem like no ones cares about this team.
  • 2nd Quarter Outlook: The Horford injury really hurts them.

New York Knicks 17-18

  • Swag
  • Team Strength: Star power
  • Team Weakness: Durability
  • Bandwagon Assessment: Jump On
  • 1st Quarter Outlook: Help Wanted: Point Guard to run high-powered offense with two of the leagues best scorers in the world’s most famous arena.
  • 2nd Quarter Outlook: The emergence of Linsanity is the story of the season so far. You get the feeling this Knicks team could be special once all their pieces play together for more than a week.

Boston Celtics 15-17

  • Swag
  • Team Strength: Defense
  • Team Weakness: Age
  • Bandwagon Assessment: Jump Off
  • 1st Quarter Outlook: Hard to count out the Celtics but the Perkins/Green trade was a gamble that they lost.
  • 2nd Quarter Outlook: The C’s don’t look very good and you wonder if a trade is coming.

Cleveland Cavaliers 13-18

  • Swag
  • Team Strength: Hope
  • Team Weakness: Talent
  • Bandwagon Assessment: Jump Off
  • 1st Quarter Outlook: The Cavs are showing signs of improvement and that’s admirable. Slightly disappointed I couldn’t write this note in Comic Sans.
  • 2nd Quarter Outlook: Kyrie Irving is a gem and they’ve got hope for the future. But another good lottery pick would really help.

Milwaukee Bucks 13-20

  • Swag
  • Team Strength: Grit
  • Team Weakness: Durability
  • Bandwagon Assessment: Jump Off
  • 1st Quarter Outlook: I like this team… and their old logo. The Bogut injury might be too much to overcome but they’ll battle.
  • 2nd Quarter Outlook: I still have a soft spot for the Bucks but unfortunately without Andrew Bogut, their interior defense has a soft spot too.

Detroit Pistons 11-24

  • Swag
  • Team Strength: Coaching
  • Team Weakness: Scoring
  • Bandwagon Assessment: Jump Off
  • 1st Quarter Outlook: Joe Dumars made some mistakes with this roster. They stink.
  • 2nd Quarter Outlook: They still stink but maybe not a much as we thought.

Toronto Raptors 10-23

  • Swag
  • Team Strength: Bench
  • Team Weakness: Durability
  • Bandwagon Assessment: Jump Off
  • 1st Quarter Outlook: Just say Bargnani a few times. Then watch this.
  • 2nd Quarter Outlook: Bargnani is hurt. They stink.

New Jersey Nets 10-25

  • Swag
  • Team Strength: Cap space
  • Team Weakness: Healthy tradable assets
  • Bandwagon Assessment: Jump Off
  • 1st Quarter Outlook: The impending move to Brooklyn and the uncertainty around their roster means you should wait for their new jerseys.
  • 2nd Quarter Outlook: Deron Williams comes off as a merc. They stink.

Washington Wizards 7-26

  • Swag
  • Team Strength: Scoring
  • Team Weakness: Professionalism
  • Bandwagon Assessment: Jump Off
  • 1st Quarter Outlook: Team building is hard and the Wizards have a culture of losing. They’ve had too many ‘Get Mine’ guys. The Bullet Wizards are casting blanks.
  • 2nd Quarter Outlook: They are comically stinky.

Charlotte Bobcats 4-28

  • Swag
  • Team Strength: Cap space
  • Team Weakness: Everything
  • Bandwagon Assessment: Jump Off
  • 1st Quarter Outlook: You get the feeling Jordan might be a distant owner given his team is still named after the previous owner. They stink.
  • 2nd Quarter Outlook: If we had a full season, this would be the worst team of all time. THEY STINK
